Put Diverse Voices Ahead of Corporate Profits

Nobody should be allowed to monopolize local print and broadcast media and crowd out independent voices. But the corporate media lobby has dictated media ownership rules for decades and the results are appalling: People of color own just 3 percent of our country’s full-power TV stations, and just 7.7 percent of our radio stations. Women own just 6 percent of all broadcast outlets. Across the country, corporate control of local media has given us too much fluff — and too little of the hard-hitting news and information communities really need.

Join the tens of thousands of people who have told the FCC to stop runaway media consolidation. Together we can remind the FCC commissioners to stand up to media giants — and pave the way for diverse, independent media.

I am signing this petition against further media consolidation because:

    • It is appalling that women and people of color own so few media outlets.

    • Local media monopolies are destroying local news.

    • Corporations have too much power over local media.

    • Other: fill in the blank
