In the last two months, more than 30 journalists have been arrested while trying to cover Occupy protests in 10 cities around the U.S. There have also been widespread reports of press harassment and intimidation.
More than 40,000 people have signed our letter telling mayors to rein in these attacks.
While most mayors have remained silent, some members of Congress and the United Nations envoy for freedom of expression have urged leaders in the U.S. to do more to protect the First Amendment rights of journalists and protesters.
