President Obama: Speak Out for Media Diversity
We need more choice and more voices on the airwaves. President Obama vowed to place the public’s needs over corporate interests by opposing increased media consolidation and encouraging diverse media ownership.1
But the Obama FCC has already approved one of the biggest media mergers in history. Now the agency is advancing a proposal to relax media ownership rules, despite shaky legal standing and widespread public opposition. It’s time for President Obama to take a stand against this proposal.
We need rules that will stop the spread of local media monopolies, improve the health of our media system and create more opportunities for people the media have historically marginalized. President Obama must make good on his promise and fix our failed media system.
